Here it is Pearl Harbor Day. I was Googling around at random for WW2 stuff when I decided to try my Dad’s name. I found this picture:
That’s my Dad, Ensign Lyle L. Laws, Skipper of the LCT-1321, with his crew. This picture was probably taken in late 1944 or early ’45 somewhere in the South Pacific. I have never seen it before, nor any other picture of my Dad during the war.
He told me some stories of his time in the Navy. Maybe someday I’ll write them down. But right now, finding this picture has had a huge impact on me. I will just say, should anyone else search for his name, that he was a great man, and a great Dad.
He passed away on June 29, 1998.
Today, spare a thought for those who fought.
